5 million nationwide said “No King. Yes Constitution!”
On Saturday, across America, over 5 million people showed up to peacefully protest Trump’s authoritarian actions. It was one of the largest protests in U.S. history.
Here in Concord people showed up in surprising numbers — over 2,000! Many were Concord residents; and many more were from surrounding towns and beyond — even other states — drawn here by Concord’s historic role in the revolution against the tyrant mad king 250 years ago.
Despite gray skies and drizzle, a positive, joyful mood prevailed. CI’s Marsha Turin organized a squad of musical minutemen who entertained the crowd and led the parade. And the signs people carried were amazing — some hilarious, some furious, all creative.
Above all, the event was a boost to everyone’s morale. It was fun to see neighbors, meet new like-minded folks, and see and feel that you are not alone.
And experts say events like this make a difference: large numbers influence politicians and the media and encourage more people to come off the sidelines — especially when they see we’re having fun!
If you’re still on the sidelines, please join us next time…and bring your friends!
Here are some comments from attendees:
Leanne B: It was AMAZING!!! So good, so powerful, such great turnout.
Maria K: Thank you Concord. Being able to have a march made a big difference in letting us stand up for democracy.
Abla S: It was great to demonstrate against this unbelievable assault on our democracy and freedom. No Kings was marvelous and very rewarding for me to be with like-minded sincere and patriotic people as I read the signs and moved to the live music. Thanks for your great effort and perfect organization.
Anya T: My first protest ever. Good community, staff and police effort. Felt safe and energized to be with people who are as appalled as I am about what’s happening in our government.
Jim R: Great spirit of kindness and solidarity with everyone on Monument Square!
Betsy N: Lots of nice people. The parade had so many people that the head of the parade returned before the tail left.
Nicole P: Excellent. Wow, was I pleasantly surprised at the turnout and so glad I was able to join. It reminds me, when the turmoil of political frenzy in the administration has you feeling outnumbered, that I am surrounded by good people who care about our democracy and each other.
Paul H: Lovely, lively, focused gathering in support of democracy
Kristen S: I didn’t realize I needed to attend this march. It brought me joy, affirmation, and hope.
Maura C: I am worried about the future of our democracy; and it was inspiring to be in Concord, MA where the American revolution began and join others who feel the same way.
Louisa M: Taking action is the antidote to my anxiety, and it was wonderful being with so many other protestors out on no kings day too.
Priscilla C: It was essential to stand up to trump. It is time for more than words. What was wonderful was how big the crowd was and running into so many friends.
Marcia M: A wonderful gathering of like minded people and canines….incredible signs…in spite of the rain.
Nadine F: This was my first protest since the Vietnam era. It was an incredible experience. I was able to express myself and my feelings.
Dorothy G: It was very uplifting to see the large turnout of sane people. It gave me hope.
Nancy Z: I believe in democracy. It was heart warming to see so many people turn out for this event. We need to keep this up until we remove all anti-democratic people from office, especially the faux king.
