Over 50 Concord-area postcard writers responded to a call to help counteract voter suppression in North Carolina.
North Carolina Asian-Americans Together in Action identified over 6,000 Asian-American voters who were recently purged from the voter rolls, a tactic that disproportionately affects minority populations. NCAAT asked help from All-in for NC and Activate America, a national organization that coordinates postcard actions across the country.
Activate America produced postcards to alert these purged NC voters that they likely are no longer registered to vote and to inform them how to get back on the rolls. Postcard writers from Concord Indivisible, Indivisible Acton Area, Sudbury, and surrounding towns wrote 2,000 postcards to these voters—a true grassroots effort, coordinated by Barbara Head of CI!
Asian-Americans comprise an under-represented minority group in the voting population. For our democracy to work, we need every American voter to participate, and these are people who have chosen to vote. It’s deeply satisfying to help them achieve their goal of casting a ballot in upcoming elections. Join our next campaign!
