Harvey Wheeler community center was packed for our MLK Day of Service: over 150 people came through our doors! It was clear how much our community needed to feel the camaraderie of caring, engaged, and committed democracy warriors. We delivered! As one couple said, “We just want to walk around this room and soak this all up!”
A big shout out to our partners — Indivisible Acton Area, Indivisible LAB, and the Immigrant Task Force of First Parish — for helping us organize important actions and identifying great organizations where we could make a difference.
We collected over 1,000 pounds of food for Open Table, a mountain of sleeping bags and blankets for Brazilian Worker Center, a van-full of socks and underwear for Community Closet, another mountain of cleaning products for International Institute of New England, and an impressive amount of cash and checks for the Robbins House/Altadena Wildfire fund! We also wrote nearly 1,000 letters to advocate for the protection of immigrants.
Isn’t that a beautiful thing? And who had time to even think about the tragedy taking place in DC while we were running around Harvey Wheeler!
