“Don’t agonize. Organize!”
—Nancy Pelosi
We’re taking Pelosi’s advice. From now until the November election, Concord Indivisible will focus our efforts on keeping the White House, maintaining Democrats’ razor-thin margin in the Senate, and flipping the narrowly-red House to a cool blue. When Dems control the government, we’ll have a shot at protecting rights, passing progressive policies, and strengthening our democracy — instead of just trying to prevent backsliding.
Our strategy: Target purple states.
So many races, so little time! Fortunately, there are also a lot of progressives — in Concord Indivisible and fellow orgs around the country — working to elect Democrats. We want to maximize our impact, so we’ve chosen to focus on several states where we can get a “three-fer” — where each project to reach voters can contribute to wins for president, the Senate and the House.
- Our focus states will be Arizona, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
- In 2020, the margin of the vote for president in each of these states was way too close for comfort.
- Four of the closest, must-win Senate races will be in Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
- And all these states are key to taking back the House: each has several vulnerable GOP and Democratic representatives running in “swing” districts that could go either way.
We’ll rely on partnerships and data to choose actions.
As an energetic group of progressives in a solidly blue state, we know we’re most effective when we cooperate with trusted partners with deep knowledge of our target states. We’re also guided by rigorous research about what works to bring out voters in a tight election.
Based on these criteria, each week we’ll identify and recommend an action you can take to:
- Provide information to voters via calls, texts, social media, and postcards. When elections are won and lost by small percentages, these are the kinds of actions that can make all the difference. In Nevada in 2022, for example, we sent cards and made calls on behalf of Catherine Cortez Masto. She won her Senate seat by 4,983 votes out of 988,985 total votes cast — a 0.50% margin!
- Support the grassroots groups who work effectively on the ground in these states — by making donations or helping with “back-office” tasks like cleaning voter rolls and contacting volunteers.
Here’s what you can do:
- Share your knowledge: If you have connections with, and hear about actions relevant to our target states, let us know!
- Share your time: Check our newsletter for an important action each week. AND check our Springboard for even more actions.
- Share your resources: Donate to Rural Democracy Initiative, which funds grassroots groups in our Swing States.
Winning in the fall seems like a daunting task. With focus and hard work, we can do it!
